Amit Shoham appeared in my Nova Planet House Sessions Vol.1 EP with an exclusive magic emotional piano based deep house track called ''The Bent Piano''. Amit Shoham is running Tarantic Records in San Franscisco with DJ Blackstone. His and label sound is a unique house sound, shaped in wide open minded state with rock, balearic, folk, jazz and funk influences. I get in touch with his sound when i was introduced to this by 8DPromo promotional campains and since then i discover a new sound. The pure underground house sound of the San Franscisco. About Amit Shoham:
He has been making music for as long as he can remember. He took organ lessons when he was six. He wanted to play guitar and his parents wanted him to play piano. They said "you're going to take piano lessons, and when you're old enough we'll get you a synthesizer. It'll sound just like a guitar." He could tell that this wasn't quite what he had bargained for, but at the age of six he didn't know how to formulate a counter argument. We settled on the electric organ, which was as close to a synthesizer as he was going to get in Haifa, Israel in 1976.
Somewhere along the way he picked up guitar, bass, and percussion. He played in a few bands (progressive rock, jazz, reggae, funk), did a bit of studio work and some live sound work. He is an electrical engineer (yes, a geek!) by training so he had dabbled in all sorts of music-related technology, from designing studio components to computer-based composition and synthesis (which was still cutting-edge when he played around with this stuff in the late '80s).
For a very long time he hated dance music. That's because I didn't bother to seek out the good stuff until he was introduced to the San Francisco rave scene in 1993. Oh, the good old days! All the geeks and the freaks seemed to be going to the raves. It was a good time for exploration, both musical and otherwise. So he decided he would try making this thing called house music. He was introduced to DJ Blackstone in 1995 by a mutual friend (Jackie-O of the Big Love Show on KZSU) and they started working on music together, and eventually started their label, Tarantic Records. (You can find most of Tarantic's catalog on Beatport, and select releases are also available on iTunes, among many other digital download sites.)
He's been refining his production skills ever since, and started DJing along the way. He'd like to think that he's hold the title of "world's quietest DJ," if there were such a thing. Those who know me will get what I mean...
Music flows in his veins, so when his nose bleeds grooves emanate forth into the cosmos, and when he cut himself a song is born. Ouch! ...here comes another one.
