Haruomi Hosono, Takahiko Ishikawa & Masataka Matsutohya - The Aegean Sea 1979 *
They call it Balearic… May I call it at least Mediterranean (where included the Balearic Islands)? The ‘’The Aegean Sea’’ is a kind of multicoloured jazz fusion that I will try to describe next. The sea-shored opener ‘’Aegean Fantasy’’ sounds so Greek, Greek movie I could say. Bouzouki, George Katsaros, Greece’s most known saxophone player and smooth jazz guitar that sounds so Balearic and takes me to jazz releases from Greece could be a Balearic, next to José Padilla ‘’Street Tatoo’’ sexy choice, don’t’? The aquatic '’Atlantis’’ has Spanish disco veins and gypsy fire ‘temperamento’ in the heart. The cosmic volcano of ‘’Reggae Aegean Woman’’ is like Japanese tourists who are having fun in a disco bar in Santorini, the most uptempo moment on the LP. ‘’Bride Of Mykonos’’ is another cinematic moment, cosmic as well. As AOR is living glory days again its fans will be happy with B Side opening track ‘’Image’’. ‘’Waves Rose’’ looks like the hottest track for me, a killer jazz funk one. The another place, another time ‘’Day Break’’ sound so pure 70s, so far away from our 40 year later music sphere with a composition that lost the more energetic jazz interference and stands next to Il Guardiano Del Faro’s ‘’Oasis’’ ones. On ‘’Lament of Aphrodite’’ which is running out ‘’The Aegean Sea’’, the album metamorphosed on a fairytale, a drama of Hellenic Mythology, sad and miles away from its sunshine and moonlight blue and white. You will choose if this is #BalearicForYou of Mediterranean For You. - DJ Nova, Balearic For You
